This piece is created using fresh harakeke harvested from Koutu on the shores of Lake Rotorua and was woven during Matariki

The harakeke has been boiled to preserve it and dyed orange (karaka)

The flax has been boiled and dyed (forest green) to preserve it

The toggle is driftwood from the shoreline, and the loop is made from muka. In addition, the kiwai is adjustable. Tkopa Kura simply means school satchel.
