Its fruit is used in the making of wine by the local communities, hence its scientific name, Oenocarpus, which translates into wine fruit. The Pataua oil extracted from the fruits pulp is popularly used in salads and fried food because its composition, rich in essential fatty acids, is very similar to the olive oil. Also rich
