For example, if you place a Fossil Card in your Active Spot after your opponent uses Sabrina, you can discard the card and go straight back to using your primary Pokemon, without any of your 'mons getting hurt in the process

You cannot respond to cards played on another players turn, so there is no reason to reserve ink
