I think the two announcements are hard to separate, and both speak to the direction of the corporate entity that is Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro
This can only see any real play in a spellslinger deck, which means that by the moment this card hits the field face down, you should already be able to turn it face up for a single red mana
Though other spells and abilities that are exiled won't get a chance to resolve, they don't count as being countered
In part it was a backlash against Sphinxs Revelation decks
Spiteful Banditry deserves special mention for being a board sweeper that also generators Treasure tokens, and don't forget about Oblivion Stone and Nevinyrral's Disk, both of which can be searched out using Iron Man's ability (eventually at the cost of Iron Man's life, but can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs)
You can also spend four, tap it, and Zombify a dork with haste from your graveyard and then exile it, and we don't have much recursion other than Volrath's Stronghold, so don't worry about the self-exiling much, when it's good, do it
