The length means that there is more control over the line making mends easier, as well as keeping the back cast up over vegetation. A 5wt line is ideal for rivers and will have enough power to punch larger flies into a wind, and the rod has plenty of backbone to control larger trout. All of my rods a hollow built as standard.
