The immersive installation features a monumental wooden canoe, found objects, and natural materials. Saar, who grew up in Pasadena in the 1930s, is a pioneer of assemblage art and part of a foundational generation of Black artists in Los Angeles. This volume includes interviews with the artist and essays by poet and novelist Ishmael Reed, critic
