19th Century Sultanabad Ziegler Carpet Ivory Design: Textured Sahara/Diamond Design WoolThe city of Sultanabad (now known as Arak) in Iran Persia, became a major rug production center in the second half of the 19th century as the result of efforts by Ziegler & Co., a British Swiss manufacturer who modified traditional Persian carpet designs to satisfy European tastes. Colors were softened to appeal to American and European tastes (rose red being the most popular), patterns were bigger, and the rugs were made larger to accommodate room
