English Redwork Sampler from 1808 Ane Margrete Olsdatter Sampler 1810 This pattern is not suitableA delicate and beautiful redwork marking sampler from 1808! This is one of the earliest red marking samplers. I know Bristol samplers did not appear until the 1860s. The pattern of Mary Purdye in my store is from 1815. Lydia was a very accomplished stitcher and the back is almost as perfect as the front. There is an upper and lower case alphabet with the "J" omitted. The lower case alphabet uses the old English long "s" in the shape of an "f". There
