We love variety, it adds spice to the life. Of course customization gives pleasure to us.
We are able to customize the software in mobile. We can only change the look and feel of the hardware, unlike software where we can customize the functionality and behaviour.
Don’t you think it will be great, if we can customize the hardware the way we customize the software? We can once again revisit our childhood and build phones the way Lego was played.
We can proudly recite child is the father of man.
Say hello to Google’s new Project Ara.
As Project Ara Goes:
The smartphone is one of the most empowering and intimate objects in our lives. Yet most of us have little say in how the device is made, what it does, and how it looks. And 5 billion of us don’t have one. What if you could make thoughtful choices about exactly what your phone does, and use it as a creative canvas to tell your own story?
Designed exclusively for 6 billion people.
Google’s Project Ara modular smartphone arrives soon. Google said, at Project Ara Module Developer Conference, it plans to launch it in second half of this year. The pilot project will start selling phone chases and modules through local carrier partners as well as through a fleet of small trucks.
However,Google considers, still there is room for improvement, and we can see it across the stores after the completion of the work.
Project Ara is going through its second phase. (Or Spiral 2).
The project has matured. Apart from Wifi, now it can connect with 3G wireless as well.
Google’s Advanced Technology and Project group says that it’s working with the carriers to bring it to the shelves.
Developers developing and selling hardware modules and selling them is in the pipeline. This is similar to the way apps are built and sold.
There are still uncertainties about the cost of the product when it comes to the market. Moreover, how consumers will react to a product which comes in bits and pieces to be built is yet to be experienced.
However, so far people have always loved to build things on their own.
Here are some cool images.
