In a leading mining company in South Africa, inventory and wear and tear data were maintained in Excel. The process was unstructured, lengthy, and didn’t provide an insight into the entire process.
Our company Geelani Consultancy and Solutions developed an ERP dashboard and a mobile app that will give the supervisors a 360 degree view of the system, trigger timely alerts, and save them time and labor.
Background:
Iron ore is passed through large mechanical screens to separate out large ore particles from finer dusts. These screens are fitted with panels that undergo mechanical fatigue, stress, strains and damages due to welding, shocks etc.
It’s important to understand the reason for the damage as well as the exact location of the panel that is damaged.
If this data is recorded and analyzed, it can save the mining company several thousand dollars a week by preventing the cause of the damage and minimizing it.
Challenges:
It is possible to save data from paper forms , and then integrate it into the system. But the paper forms are hard to maintain, they require the conversion of data to digital formats, and frequently are lost. This results in missing data elements that are essential to getting the results.
The data can be gathered using an Excel spreadsheet. However, the information isn’t centralized. Additionally, it is difficult to analyze and process the data within the Excel spreadsheet.
It is difficult to visualize and take the data points of screens in an excel spreadsheet.
